Andy Cates is a UK-based macroeconomist with more than 30 years’ experience analysing the global economy and financial markets.
He is Senior Economist at Haver Analytics, where he writes on the world economy, produces regular publications including Charts of the Week and Viewpoints, and speaks to institutional investors and corporate clients through webinars, podcasts and conferences.
Before joining Haver Analytics in 2020, Andy held senior economist positions at Nomura, RBS and UBS, including Head of Developed Markets Economics at Nomura and Chief Eurozone Economist at RBS. Earlier in his career he spent five years in Singapore covering the Asian economies and began his career at HM Treasury.
Andy specialises in explaining complex economic issues in a clear, engaging and evidence-based way. His work focuses on global growth, inflation, central banks, financial markets, geopolitics and the long-term forces shaping the world economy.
